MySavings.com

I really struggle at the grocery store some days. It always seems to cost me more than I expect – and it always seems to be going up. And since I’m the shopper in the family, I really do notice in a way that many guys don’t. And while I might be able to save a little bit more by driving across the bridge to the SuperCenter, I’d rather go to the grocer that is about three minutes from my house rather than fight the traffic and the lines in that other place.

I’ve started to try to use more coupons when I shop, but I really hate to have to wade through the coupon section of the paper in order to find just the right ones. It just seems to be an inefficient use of time. Still, grocery coupons could very helpful to me if I could zero in on just the ones I wanted – and maybe even a few that are on line. And I’ve found some good ones at MySavings.com. And not only can I find the coupons I need for food there, I can also find internet coupon codes and free samples there as well, so my savings extend beyond the grocery store and onto the internet and into the mailbox.

Network Solutions

If you are thinking about purchasing your own domain so that you can establish a blog where you have full control or a web presence for your business, you need to be looking for the web hosting services that meet your needs, not one that controls your content. After all, while you can design a spectacular website and have it tucked away on your hard drive, it doesnÂ’t make a bit of difference until you have your site on a server where people will be able to access it.

That is where the question of Web Hosting Services comes into the picture. You pay a set fee (either monthly or annually) to a company to host all of your online content for you -- web pages, images, e-mail, and all the rest. This is not something you can depend on with a free host -- indeed, your only real option in most cases is to find a web host that you can afford so that you have complete control over your web content. As IÂ’ve noted in the past, wading through the thousands of web hosts can be confusing. Network Solutions is one of the leaders in the field of web hosting, and I would encourage you to take a close look at their services and prices when you try to find a web host.

Chat Lines

I guess I live in a really sheltered world. I really wasn't aware of phone chat services like this one that offers free chat services on their chat lines. Of course, there is a membership fee involved if you want to use the free local phone number for this service, so you will probably be calling a long distance number for that "free chat". Still, with unlimited nights and weekend minutes on cell phone plans and unlimited long distance plans on land lines, i suppose you can use such a service for free. Personally, though, I'm more concerned about screening out kids my students' age (the site says it is for adults only) and protecting users from the unscrupulous and the predatory.

Holiday In Cyprus

As Christmas break approaches, this teacher finds himself more and more stressed out. I'll be honest -- I need those days off to rest, relax, recharge, and maybe catch up on a bit of reading. But I wouldn't mind a neat trip to someplace unusual.

And for cheap flights to Cyprus, one of the best available sources is HolidayHypermarket.com -- if you are flying from the UK. Duplex Scanners

I remember the first scanner I ever saw. It was huge, and the resolution was crap. Not only that, but all scanned images were in black and white. And prices, like for any new device, were sky high. Today, however, you can get a good color scanner for a low price, so most serious computer users and virtually all businesses have scanners. Indeed, now you can get them combined with a printer, too!

I scan documents, and also a lot of photos. When I do that, I know that the copy will last for as long as I want it. I know that my documents and pictures are safe digitally so if anything happens to the hard copy, I have the scanned copies in a safe place.

One great development is duplex scanners, which are probably the best way to go for certain purposes. It scans both sides of the scanned document simultaneously, so it may so be used to scan business cards, plastic ID cards, and documents up to legal size. Newer models now have a USB 2.0 standard interface, so there is no external power needed. Best of all, they are very light weight, so you can carry them anywhere you will need it.

Shades & Blinds

The sun sure does beat down on the house here in Texas. You need to keep the light and heat out when it does. I'm thinking that maybe some Custom Blinds like these blackout Roman shades may be the solution to the energy costs associated with all that light and heat, and would be a good decorating solution as well. And the price sure is right.

Not only is the price right, but so is the quality. If you doubt me, look at the bamboo shades and other sorts of blinds they hang when next you watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. They provide the blinds and shades for the show.

Trusted Tours

My wife grew up in western Pennsylvania, about two or three hours from Niagara Falls. She visited the falls a number of times when she was a kid. On the other hand, my single experience was a visit to the Falls when I was about eleven – something that I didn’t particularly enjoy. But I did get a chance to go back when Paula and I were preparing for our wedding – we drove up for a day and saw the falls, shopped a bit, and then went home to her mother. Money was really tight at that point in our lives, and so we didn’t do much of the touristy stuff.

But you know, I sure would love to go back for a visit. I think that at this point in my life, a guided tour might be the best way to go. You know, shepherding us around so that we get to the Maid of the Mist for the journey behind the falls, a visit to the whirlpools, and a trip to the top of Skylon Tower would be the way to go. No parking hassles, no navigating our way through unfamiliar streets – just a day of relaxation and sightseeing. I could concentrate on taking care of Paula.

If you are looking for such tours, sign up for the Trusted Travel eNewsletter. Trusted Tours has tours of Niagara Falls and many other cities. They can get you through the highlights if you are in town for a short visit, or guarantee that you see all the sights if you have a bit longer.

And when you sign up for that nesletter, all new subscribers will be automatically entered into a drawing for an iPod Nano!

Amelia Island

Are you planning a getaway before 29th February next year ? Well, if you are, you may well be interesting in the special offer currently being run some hotels & bed and breakfasts on Amelia Island in Florida.

If youÂ’ve not been there before, click on the Lodging Special link. YouÂ’ll find out that Amelia Island is in the northeast corner of the state, just a bit off the coast. It is right there, by the Georgia border.

The offer itself is not that difficult to understand. When you book three consecutive nights, you only pay for two! You’ll have to check out that link to find out which places are a part of this great offer. And while you are scoping out the deal, take a look at the attractions that are listed. Don’t they make you want to go there even more? For example, over the next two weeks you’ll find that Santa is throwing a story book party and a showing of “It’s A Wonderful Life” in an outdoor cinema.

And if you are into history like me, then make sure you look at the many changes this island has seen in its history, which has included no less than 8 different flags having flown over the island, including Spain, Britain, Mexico and France. That makes for some neat history right there.

Photo Cards

Christmas is coming! Preparations are underway for the holiday, as we do our decorating and shop for gifts for a needy child. It is also time to get started on the Christmas cards. We are doing our “he said/she said” letter again this year, and may do a photo card.

Unlike my wife, I am not a big fan of greeting cards. Christmas is the exception. I love Christmas cards. I especially love the ones that beautifully represent the holy reason for the season, and find that such Christmas cards really do add to the season.

I also love

photo cards, because they help keep us up to date with loved ones far away. IÂ’m particularly impressed by those that appear in New Photo Card Designs at this site. They are just wonderful!

You get the opportunity to customize these cards with the picture of your choice, and to make sure it is just right before you finalize the order. From start to finish, the decisions are yours, making these cards fully personalized.

These may not be the cheapest personalized cards, but they sure are beautiful. They are certainly wonderful for those of us who are not artistically inclined, or for who don't have the time to create something spectacular. But what you spend in cash will be appreciated by the recipients all the more, because of the great quality.

A Time To Care

When we first moved into the area where we live, we joined a local church. Among the many special people we met there were an older couple I’ll call George and Eliza. It was always fun to sit with these folks, who had been married right after the war in 1945. George would tell stories about his time in the navy, and later stories of his time working at NASA – imagine my shock at realizing who he meant during a conversation about the Apollo program when he referred to a conversation with Neil and Buzz. Those conversations stopped a couple of years ago, not long after the doctors diagnosed George as having Alzheimer's disease. Now his ability to keep his train of thought long enough to tell such a story is gone. That is a part of the Dementia that comes from the brain damage associated with Alzheimer's, damage caused by the irreversible destruction of brain cells. I miss my old friend very much.

I'm amazed to watch Eliza deal with the daily struggle that is a part of their life today. Gone is the man she has loved for over six decades, replaced with a sometime-stranger who has problems with his temper and his personal needs. I know that she suffers from this disease every bit as much as he does – perhaps more, because he does not always realize that here is anything wrong. And it is really grueling, for George needs constant care and supervision, only part of which is done by their visiting nurse and part-time housekeeper. And as much as she tries to understand that this is but one part of the disease, I am sure that the lapses of memory, anger, and stubbornness that are a part of the disease leave her discouraged. And yet she still cares for him, just as he nursed her through several serious illnesses in the years right before the onset of this disease.

But how do you learn to deal with such a disease? What resources are there for friends and loved ones of those suffering from Alzheimer's? Well, there is a DVD available called "A Time To Care". It is an informative video that presents answer and strategies to viewers in a motivational, easy-to-understand style. It is a four-part program that addresses the core issues related to care for individuals with Alzheimer's disease.

Sadly, you may know someone who is caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's. If you do, this DVD may be a truly considerate and compassionate holiday gift for them. There are other items available at the same site.

Biotene Sensitive Formula

My back teeth are sensitive. They all have deep fillings, and the only way to deal with them is to get them all crowned. Let’s see – 8 teeth times $700 equals $5600. YIKES – my crappy dental insurance provider will require me to spend the equivalent of seven mortgage payments just to take care of the problem! I’ve therefore intermittently needed to use special toothpastes for sensitive teeth. I was therefore quite happy when I learned of a new brand of sensitive toothpaste called Biotene.

Now when my teeth do get to that stage where they are sensitive, I get an instant shock from a cold cola or a cup of hot tea. Thank God I donÂ’t have to deal with cold winter air, or I would be driven insane. But those daily experiences mentioned above are quite enough, thank you very much.

Biotene’s sensitive formula contains potassium nitrate as the active ingredient to combat hypersensitivity. The result? An almost immediate reduction in the “shock and yow!” sensation when my teeth are subjected to a temperature change. It tastes great, too, and leaves a great aftertaste as well.

Biotene is not a miracle product, and canÂ’t replace regular dental care. It is, however, a great sensitive toothpaste, since it solves the problem and doesnÂ’t merely provide a temporary fix for the sensitivity.

Plastic Surgery

These days, people have many options available to make themselves fit the cultural standards of being physically fit and more beautiful. We all know about the easy availability of plastic surgery for the purpose of losing weight or adding beauty. Indeed, plastic surgery has become a regular occurrence, with large numbers of people opting for plastic surgery for getting rid of their physical flaws (at least as they see them to be). And while once plastic surgery was limited only to the wealthiest strata of society, the decreasing cost of plastic surgery has made it much more accessible to a much broader range of income levels in our society.

Of course, plastic surgery has reaches the zenith of its potential when used to aid the people suffering from various physical defects and deformities due to birth defects, accidents or burns. And as medical professionals advance the field of plastic surgery, the techniques are becoming more beneficial for more people. For example, breast augmentation, which began for cosmetic purposes for women who had lost a breast as a result of accidents or medical treatment, has become big business with many women getting the procedure done to increase the size of their breasts. There are also breast reductions, which can be beneficial to women whose breast size has created difficulties with their vertebrae, as an example.

In recent years, some of these techniques have been transferred over into the ever-growing field of liposuction. This is all the more true as obesity has emerged as a major problem around the world. As a result, medical science is continuing to introduce new and faster ways to providing some relief in the problem. If you are looking for a Beverly Hills liposuction provider, you might want to consider visiting the last link to learn more about liposuction and one popular provider in the area. They are known for providing all sorts of Beverly Hills Plastic Surgery, and so can meet your needs for any sort of plastic surgery.

Vacation Rentals

I've got to be honest -- hotel living really sucks. That can be especially true when you are on vacation. After all, here you are ready to relax and you end up with a lousy bed and no amenities, often at an inflated price that really does not reflect the value you are receiving.

Why not rent a house or a condo instead? You know, a place that has all the comforts of home ready for you. Someplace you can settle in to for the duration to get a good rest.

Over at HomeAway.com, they have great Vacation Rentals available for you for not much more than you would pay for a hotel. For example, I just saw one unit located a zip code away. I know what the local hotels charge for a night -- and this place is only $20 more a night than the hotel three blocks away! Seems to me there are some great deals out there, if you take the time to look.

What Is Title Insurance?

When you buy a new home it is of the quite important that you receive a clear title to the property. There could be claims from the family or heirs of a previous owner, or there could be a lien on it by a contractor or creditor. Heck, the IRS might even have some claim based upon unpaid taxes. You could purchase the property and suddenly discover that someone else has some ownership or security interest in it that may make it impossible for you to sell or develop the property you bought.

That is where title insurance comes into the picture. The title company has already given you the assurance that there are no blots on title to the property you are purchasing – at least none that can be discovered from the public records. The title insurance will then cover undiscovered claims growing out of the unrecorded or overlooked claims that could threaten your ownership of the real estate.

After purchasing title insurance, the
title insurance companies protect you by defending your title in the face of the claim, in court if necessary, and they cover the cost of settling if the claim proves valid. What they do is protect your title and maintain your possession of your property.

ItÂ’s a win-win. You only pay premium, when you purchase your home; title companies routinely offer it at closing, so you are covered from day 1.

The Harry Situation

I just encountered a website called "The Harry Situation". It is all about the development of a sit-com that went horribly awry, creating loads of problems for the fellow who created it. It deals with network problems, sponsor problems, and other assorted problems that took what was to be a high-brow comedy into low-brow territory, destroying what could have been a great show.

Unless, of course, it is all a satire -- and if it is, it is good enough to leave me guessing.

Title Insurance

One of the things I never thought about before I bought a house was teh question of having a clear title to the property. Seriously, I assumed that the sales process was a simple one, and that the transfer of ownership from person to person was really quite a simple process. Dare I say that I've since come to understand that this is not the case -- though fortunately, not from any problem with my home. And I now understand why you need to have title insurance when you buy.

Recently, a family member found herself facing a real problem with the property upon which she had built her home. She and her husband had made the purchase years ago, and had built a nice house for the family. But when probate was done on the will of a neighboring farmer, there arose a question about where the property line was -- and that property line ran right through the house. That is where the title companies got involved, and worked out the issue so that the home remained in their possession without any additional expense to them. Not bad for a policy on which you pay only a single premium at the time you purchase the house.

So as you close on the sale of your new property, check out various title insurance companies to make sure that you are getting a policy from one that is reputable.

Some Christmas Wish List Items

My Hurricane Rita experience still haunts me over two years after the fact. It wasn’t the stress of being driven from my home by a storm that we fully expected to destroy all our possessions that we could not take with us due to the expected 25 foot storm surge barreling though my home (which is located barely 5 feet above sea level and only four blocks from the bay). It was not being rear-ended in my new car after having traveled only 60 miles in 20 hours and having to make a hospital visit with my wife. No, what haunts me today is how unprepared we really were – and how we really aren’t much better prepared today in the event another storm comes.

That’s why there are two items I really want to see under our tree on Christmas – a pair that complement each other quite well. I want an Emergency Response Kit for my wife, and an Emergency Preparedness Kit for me. Let's be honest -- if we had found it necessary to sustain ourselves away from shelter -- in our car, no less -- during the storm because of a mechanical failure or running out of gas (thank God for Sam's Club in the Woodlands!), we would have had little in the way of food to eat and less water than would have been advisable -- after all, we had expected to be on the road under 12 hours as we escaped to Oklahoma. That’s why I want Santa to shop for me at PlanetMace.com, your one-stop website for personal, home, auto and child safety gear. They have both of the items I want, and many more besides.

Of course, there are some stocking stuffers we could use, too. They’ve got door and window braces that can help make Paula feel more safe at home when I’m at school. There is also alarm gear, in case someone ever does want to get into the house. You can even buy lock pick set for a loved one if they need one – though I can’t see why I would need one.

Plasma Art

Does it surprise you to know that, as conservative as I am, I have a taste for some rather funky, unusual types of art and slightly off-beat objects for around my workspace? Maybe that's why I have a couple of gargoyles guarding my computer at school, or why my home office has a giant piece of modern art hanging where it is the first thing you see upon entering.

Well, I just found one more item I'd like to add to my collection of interesting stuff -- this topographic representation of the Earth brought to life through the magic of plasma!

Now this look at it. There is our planet, with a cool blue glow suffusing the whole. And yet, when you touch the surface, caressing the surface of Mother Earth, green bolts of plasma are formed, creating a light show within the globe that provides new perspectives on the planet and its surface. How exciting -- not only would this be great as a decoration at home, but also as an interesting classroom item.

Now where does one get such an item? Would you believe at a site called CoolStuffExpress.com? They have, as the name suggests, lots of cool stuff for home and office – including this and lot’s more Plasma Art. And they should – they have been supplying such products to museum stores for years, and so they know what quality is and what the buying public likes. Drop by and see for yourself!
