Family Values, Jihadi-Style

Another reminder of the enemy we fight at home and abroad.

Three suspected al Qaeda militants, including two sisters, beheaded their uncle and his wife, forcing the couple's children to watch, Iraqi police said on Friday.

The militants considered that school guard Youssef al-Hayali was an infidel because he did not pray and wore western-style trousers, they told police interrogators after being arrested in Diyala province northwest of Baghdad.

The three cousins executed Hayali and his wife Zeinab Kamel at the all-boys school in Jalawlah in Diyala province, village police chief Captain Ahmed Khalifa said.

Kill mom and dad in front of the kids.

Because they don't pray enough.

And don't wear native clothes.

And yet the Left in this country seems to think that Republicans and conservative Christians are the greatest threat to freedom in the world.

Maybe they need to get a clue.

A Contrarian View On The Flyng Imam Suit

As indicated above, I'm going to be a contrarian on yesterday's decision to allow the six "flying imams" to continue their suit against US Airways. While so many of my fellow conservatives think the judge should have dismissed the suit, I think it should -- indeed must -- continue to a decision by a jury.

Six Muslim imams arrested on a U.S. Airways jet in Minneapolis last November after a passenger raised suspicions about their pre-flight prayers and boarding activities won an early victory Tuesday in their federal lawsuit against the airline and the Metropolitan Airports Commission.

U.S. District Judge Ann Montgomery's opinion and order rejected almost all of the defendants' arguments for dismissal. She said the question of whether airport officers had probable cause to arrest the men must be determined by the objective facts they had available at the time.

Over the past year, the case has triggered a firestorm of debate about security concerns vs. religious rights. The imams have argued that they were removed because of religious and ethnic bias. The airline says they were ejected solely because of security concerns raised by passengers and crew members.

Now let me explain why I think this is a good outcome. In time, this case is going to go before a group of twelve men and women who will have to determine whether or not the actions of the six were suspicious or not. And that decision will be based upon how those actions are COLLECTIVELY viewed, not how they are viewed in isolation from one another. So while no one of these actions can be seen as particularly damning, I fail to see how a jury can conclude that all of them taken together are anything other than suspicious and grounds for further investigation.

My only concern is that the judge may have indicated a bias in how she framed her decision.

It was that suit that Judge Montgomery allowed to proceed. In her 41-page decision, she said the imams "adequately stated a claim" that airport police may have "seized plaintiffs in violation of their Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures."

But we have to wonder if the judge would have so readily given the imams' suit the green light had she been a passenger or crew member on that plane.

Reports indicate that the men made anti-American statements, chanted "Allah, Allah, Allah" and used prayer rugs at the gate before the flight. On board, witnesses say the men left their assigned seats and placed themselves at strategic places within the cabin — two in the front, two in the middle, two in the rear. They also asked for seat-belt extensions, though a flight attendant didn't think they needed them, and refused pilot requests to submit to additional screening.

Montgomery, however, said it is "dubious" that a reasonable person would conclude from these facts that the imams were about to interfere with the crew or aircraft.

I'll agree that the imams have provided enough of a case to let their suit advance. However, her injection of her opinion (assuming, of course, that this one word excerpt accurate reflects its original context) regarding the conclusion drawn by airline and airport professionals at the time does strike me as troubling. If I were a lawyer in this case, I'd be filing a motion for a new judge, given the fact that the current one seems to have made up her mind about the proper outcome of the case.

But in the end, I still support this case going to court. Our court system should be open to those who believe they have a legitimate claim to bring, and judges should be reluctant to dismiss cases were there is a plausible argument presented by the plaintiff.

Besides -- imagine the fun that can be had deposing these guys, and requiring them to produce material on discovery.

CAIR Complains

They don't like being labeled an "unindicted co-conspirator" in a terrorism case.

And they have a Congressman in their pocket to fight for them.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations is seeking help from House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. to pressure the Justice Department to change the group's status as a co-conspirator in a terrorism case.

CAIR officials recently met with Mr. Conyers, Michigan Democrat, and then wrote a letter asking him to lobby the new attorney general on behalf of the group, and to hold hearings.

CAIR is among several hundred Muslim groups listed as unindicted co-conspirators in a recent federal terrorism trial in Dallas into activities by the Holy Land Foundation Inc., a group linked to funding the Palestinian Hamas terrorist group. The trial recently ended in a mistrial and prosecutors have said they plan to re-try the case.

Despite its uncertain outcome, the trial has produced a large amount of information and evidence identifying U.S. and foreign groups sympathetic to or direct supporters of international Islamist terrorists.

A 1991 internal memorandum from the radical Muslim Brotherhood identified 29 front groups, including the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA), that are part of a covert program by the Brotherhood in the United States to subvert American society.

I actually have to agree with the terrorist-huggers at CAIR. Identifying them as unindicted co-conspirators is wrong. I urge the Attorney General to take immediate action to indict CAIR and its top officials for their work on behalf of global terrorism -- and treason, because that is what their efforts amount to.

UPDATE: The guys at PowerLine note a potential problem here.

Is there anyone who thinks that bringing political pressure to bear on the United States Attorney's Office to influence its handling of the Holy Land Foundation case might be...improper?

Yeah -- wasn't one of the complaints of the Democrats that politics and the interests of politicians shouldn't be involved in decisions related to prosecutions and charges brought by the Justice Department. By the standards we heard during the last weeks of the Gonzales era at the Justice Department, isn't this effort not only improper, but a betrayal of the very nature of how that department is supposed to operate?

Good News For Troops, Bad News For Dems

One more sign that the situation in Iraq is improving, and that we are winning. The deadly campaign of roadside bombs engaged in by the terrorist insurgents has fallen off shortly, indicating that the Surge has crippled the enemy and forced Iran to back off its support of the terrorists killing Americans and Iraqis.

n American military official on Thursday reported a sharp decrease in the number of roadside bombs and other homemade explosive devices in Iraq. The official, Maj. Gen. James E. Simmons, said Iran, which American officials contend is the source of the deadliest of those weapons, appeared to be abiding by a reported commitment to halt their flow into Iraq.

General Simmons said 1,560 improvised explosive devices directed at international forces or Iraqis across the country were identified in October, down after a steady monthly decline from 3,239 in March. Half of the bombs recorded for October were found before they detonated and were cleared, but the other half exploded.

“We have found weapons that we believe are associated with Iran in some of the caches that we have picked up,” said General Simmons, deputy commanding general of the Multinational Corps-Iraq. “But most of these weapons appear to have been in Iraq for months, so we have not seen any recent evidence that weapons continue to come across the border into Iraq.”

He added, “We believe that the initiatives and the commitments that the Iranians have made appear to be holding up.”

The article goes on to note that a combined effort by US and Iraqi forces have caused most of the IEDs used to be moved out of areas where they were prevalent, and into other parts of the country, but that the number of such bombs is down sharply. And while the number of new devices brought in from Iran is down due in part to the agreement cited in the article, they are also down due to interdiction on the Iraqi side of the border.

So as we see yet another indication of progress, how can the Democrats continue to insist upon claiming that we have been defeated in Iraq and that we must surrender as quickly as possible? Indeed, why have they adopted the treasonous strategy of cutting off cash for the troops in order to advance their political strategy of defeat for America in Iraq to bring about victory for the Democrats in 2008?

A Reminder Of What We Fight

You know, folks who would kill school kids because they were a convenient target of opportunity.

FIFTY-NINE schoolchildren were confirmed dead today as a result of a suicide attack in northern Afghanistan that left another 96 injured.

The schoolchildren had been lined up to greet a group of politicians visiting a sugar factory in the northern province of Baghlan on Tuesday when a suicide bomber detonated explosives.

In total, at least 75 people were killed, including several members of parliament.

Fifty-nine schoolchildren aged eight to 18 and five teachers were among those killed in the attack, education ministry spokesman Zahoor Afghan said. The attack was the deadliest in the country since the US-led invasion in 2001 removed the Taliban regime from power.

Mr Afghan said: "The education minister has ordered that no children should ever again be used in these sort of events."

Actions like this one are intended to instill terror, and to make the people think twice about the ability of the government to protect them. Indeed, their purpose is less about killing a particular target than it is in making every person wonder if they are safe, and to sap th will of the people in general -- the true targets of such bombings. Indeed, these are exercises in propaganda through acts of barbarism. The choice, however, is clear -- stand firm in the face of terror, or surrender to those who murder children in order to achieve political victory.

CNN Propagandizes For Terrorists

After all, this is how they led off a story on the latest coalition military action in Afghanistan.

Children die in Afghanistan raid

Two children died as U.S.-led coalition forces stormed a compound in Afghanistan where a suspected Taliban militant had holed himself up with his young family, a military spokesman said Thursday.

Afghan forces, backed by coalition troops raided the compound in eastern Nangarhar province after receiving "credible intelligence" about militants in the area, said Maj. Chris Belcher, Combined Joint Task Forces-82 spokesman.

Belcher said troops were engaged in a firefight with the militant, after which the two children were found dead. Another child and a wounded adult female were also found, he said.

Yep, there go the Americans, murdering innocent children like the war criminals they are.

It takes until the fourth paragraph to get to this minor bit of information.

"While resisting multiple requests to surrender, the militant barricaded himself in a room. Unbeknownst to Afghan forces, his family was barricaded in the room with him," he said.

"It is regrettable when innocent lives are put at risk by militant forces. Our sincerest condolences go out to the families of the deceased and wounded."

It seems that the reason that the kids are dead is that Daddy used them as human shields. After all, the option of surrender was offered, and he could have easily ensured the safety of his family by sending them out. Instead, he chose to keep them close at hand, ensuring that they would be subject to the maximum amount of harm.

And leave it to our “neutral, objective” press to report the story in a manner most likely to inflame world opinion against the Americans. Is it any wonder that so many of us find the “mainstream” press to be beyond belief?
