US Military

My dream career was to serve in the US military, following in the footsteps of my father. He was an officer in the US Navy for the first half of my life, and I really wanted to serve. Unfortunately, an injury in an auto accident ended that dream for me.

However, as a teacher I encourage my students to consider the US military, as a career. It is a way to get great training in valuable fields, life experience that will help you grow as an individual, and money for college.

Most important, it is a chance to serve your country. Whether guarding the seas around our nation, guararding the skies above or the nation's borders -- or serving abroad, whether in combat or not -- you are part of a mission greater than yourself, a mission of preserving American freedom.

In the back of my classroom, there is a WWII poster that puts it well -- AMERICANS ALWAYS FIGHT FOR LIBERTY. The men and women in uniform today stand in line with the great host of those who have fought for American freedom since the birth of the nation in the American Revolution.

Cosider the US military. A grateful nation will thank you for your service in defense of us all.
