Law Blog
Sponsored Post
One interesting field of blogging is that has emerged is the law-related blog (or blawgs, as they are often called). They deal with a variety of legal issues, from constitutional law to legal education to answers to legal frequently asked questions.
In the latter category is Criminal Attorneys in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions - Law Blog operated by the lawyers at the firm of Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin. They take on common legal questions and offer general principles that the layman should follow when confronted with situations implicating criminal law. Among recent questions are the following:
Should I just go to court and plead guilty, with the help of the public defender, or just by representing myself?
If I am accused of stealing from the company I worked for, can I go to jail?
I have been falsely accused of a crime. Does that mean no charges will be filed, and I should speak to the police without an attorney? I have nothing to hide.
Can the police search you or your property without a search warrant? What happens if the search is illegal?
Needless to say, there is some good information available to the public at this site, and I'd encourage anyone interested in such legal issues to take a look. And if you need legal representation in Southern Califorina, the attorneys of Kestenbaum, Eisner & Gorin are former LA prosecutors with over 50 years of courtroom experience between them.

I have a question for them: Is there a requirement that an advertisement is against California ethical rules "which contains testimonials about or endorsements of a member unless such communication also contains an express disclaimer such as "this testimonial or endorsement does not constitute a guarantee, warranty, or prediction regarding the outcome of your legal matter"?
I asked them that question the last time they ran an ad on your site, and they ignored it.
I'm suspicious of lawyers who need to depend on blog-ads for people to hire them . . .

My speculation, Dan, is that you are therefore wrong about the applicable rules -- and if you believe you are not, there is an appropriate course of action for you to take...

I certainly could be mistaken, but it seems to me that much of an attorney's effectiveness lies in reputation. Seems to me a good attorney would take the simple steps of explaining how and why my apparently valid analysis is flawed. A less scrupulous firm might simply ignore it and hope that nobody takes the time to complain to the authorities.

Hah - I just noticed that their domain is keglawyers. That brings up another speculation as to why they didn't respond to my inquiry . . .
Thank God I know other lawyers in Los Angeles . . .

Cute, Dan -- but that would ALSO be the initials of the firm.

You're certainly entitled to your paid-for opinion, RWR, but I hope your readers think long and hard before hiring a keglawyer, wherever they're from. There are legitimate lawyer referral sources in LA and other cities, but the best way, if you need a lawyer, is to ask one you know for help. They'll find one for you, usually without any charge.
