Won't This Cause A Rip In The Space-Time Continuum?
That was my response to this post title over at Michelle Malkin's most excellent blog.

THE KOS-MALKIN-NATIONAL REVIEW CONVERGENCE
Unfortunately, the post deals with a real bonehead move on the part of the Bush Administration that does nothing to enhance (and probably harms) our domestic security.
The recess appointment of Julie Myers to head DHS's Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement sucks. It's a bad move--especially now, when the White House is touting its commitment to fighting the War on Terror and securing the homeland. To quote VP Dick Cheney: "Either we are serious about fighting this war or we are not."Myers' recess appointment, sorry to say, is a joke.

I certainly don't agree.
We’ve had people with "relevant experience and" on their resume. We’ve had it for some time. If you look really close you may notice that both our immigration policy and our borders are disaster areas. All brought to us by people that you approve of.
You’d have to work a little harder to convince me that bringing anyone in on this that you believe worthwhile is going to change the situation for the better... because I’ve been watching it for the last 30 years and the last several folks who we were told were exerts or had lost of relative experience.... and the border hasn’t changed a bit... except for the worse.
Sorry, gang. When you see a nutjob like Kos agreeing with you it's a pretty solid and nigh on unarguable indication that you've miscalculated somewhere.

If this administration were really serious about fighting the war on terror, wouldn't the Transportation Security Administration still be confiscating boxcutter knives at airports?
As for appointing Julie Myers, to paraphrase Donald Rumsfeld, "You go to the Senate with the appointee you have, not the appointee you want." So many talented people have decided not to put up with the high-tech lynching that confirmation hearings have become that it's not surprising that only witless non-entities are willing to take the job, whatever the job is.
