A Freeburg High School driver's education instructor and professional wrestler, whose ring name is "The Teacher," has been charged with breaking the neck of 17-year-old Ashley Reeves of Millstadt and leaving her in dense woods to die.She was found by police at 2 a.m. Saturday. First listed in critical condition, Reeves had improved somewhat as of late Saturday afternoon after being evacuated to Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.
On Saturday evening, hospital spokesman Bob Davidson listed Reeves' condition as serious.
The sheriff's department held a press conference at 11 a.m. Saturday to announce the charges against Samson "Sam" R. Shelton, 26, of Wildwood Lake Estates in Smithton. Shelton was charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of kidnapping. He is being held at the St. Clair County Jail with bail set at $1 million.
Shelton teaches both driver's and physical education and is a volunteer assistant baseball coach at Freeburg High School.
The formal charges state that Shelton "used his forearm with such force as to break the neck of Ashley Reeves," and also used his belt in an attempt to strangle her. The 6-foot, 1-inch, 200-pound Shelton is listed as a wrestler in the Ultimate Wrestling Alliance and has appeared in several metro-east prize rings, including in Fairview Heights and Cahokia.
After spending more than 30 hours over a rainy night in thick brush and trees behind a baseball diamond at Citizens Park in Belleville, Reeves, a student at Columbia High School, was discovered about 2 a.m. Saturday by sheriff's investigators.
She was reported missing by her family about 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
Now I will say that this guy clearly was not Ashley's teacher -- she attended school in a different district. Knowing what I do of the geography of the area, I suspect he may have been a neighbor or a member of the same church.
But regardless, this is a horrifying crime. It sounds like there is much more to come out -- but hopefully not in a manner that resembles the circus unfolding in North Carolina.
May this young lady recover and be restored to health to whatever degree is possible.
UPDATE: Just read the article from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch -- this guy was a real freak!
A profile of Shelton on the Web site for his fast-pitch softball team says: "Sammy is single and currently looking for a female companion. This may include long term or short term relationship. Age does not matter, must be cute or hot."The profile also said his hobbies include "touching hookers" and pornography, and described his occupation as a "teacher, pimp, pimp teacher, pro-wrestler."
Why do I get the impression that there may be some guys in the Illinois prison system who are hoping to have Shelton as a cellmate?

Just about anyone with a website or myspace account has something that can be misinterpreted to fit the crime or make it seem like he is some horrible monster.
He is not...
This is something that probably turned bad and was mishandled by Sam.
Everyones a marter when a headline like this appears. But, look into your own website or your sons and daughters and see for yourself that things can be used for, or taken in out of a context to fit the crime.

He broke the nexk of a teenager and left her to die. I don't think "mishandled" even begins to cover such a course of action. That is like saying that OJ "mishandled" his relationship wih Nicole.

I heard she was pregnent, which would explain a lot. She tells him she's pregnant, he freaks, he kills her(or tries)...how pathetic. The question is, why would a good-looking guy have to resort to having illicit relationships with children?(Ugly chidren-sorry!). I'm 16, female, and disgusted with all of the teacher-student relationships popping up.

Most of the time, attractive men will date attractive women(over 18, preferably), and (Sorry!) Ashley just isn't in his leagues look-wise. The authorities say she was in a relationship with SS. Personally, I see this is an indicator of loose morals, therefore the word use "whore", however unfortunate. As for her surviving, that's great, and she certainly didn't deserve to be murdered(almost), but she was kinda asking for it. Okay, that sounded harsh. Please read between the lines. Botton line is, Shelton should die.Now.
Keep in mind, I'm close to her age, and have a LOT of perspective on how the crank turns, if you catch my drift.
As for my type-o, I got it right the 2nd time, so I can obviously spell, and hit the wrong key. Umm..I spelled children correctly the first time, too, just hit the wrong key(again). You're right, I am in a special class. For certifiable geniuses.(EXPO). Oh, and how did you know I was jealous? After all, it's not every day you get to be eaten alive by insects after having your neck broken...By the way, you're missing a comma before little girl.Kisses

However, the moral of the story is, in the olde vernacular: 'stay away from the near occasion of sin' simply and straight forward. That way you stay out of trouble and the leaches of society have less chance of getting their claws on you. They exist, people will try to tell you they don't, but then they can't explain whay we have victims.

And speaking as a high school teacher, I feel quite confident I can peg which broad "type" of student I would classify you as -- it is the one I call "prissy bitch". You know, the type who believes she is superior to her fellow students because she looks a little prettier and is maybe a bit smarter. My experience is that they often see themselves as morally superior to the girls who do happen to get pregnant -- especially as they congratulate tehmselves for being smart enough to have been born to a mommy and daddy who put them on the Pill so that can screw half the football team with impunity. Have I pegged you right?

Broken home doesn't mean broken morals.I don't give anybody slack on that topic, because I fit the demographic perfectly, and yet I'm a straight-A, perfect attendance student.

And Kim, I would have to say that your sister and her child are better off for you NOT being a part of their lives.
Here's hoping you learn the difference between righteousness and self-righteousness at some point in your life -- preferably before you drive away all of the imperfect folks in your life who might, at some point, have considered the ever-so-perfect you worth giving a damn about.

Teen pregnancy indicates immorality, which indicates that the said teen is a genuine slut, along with whatever deadbeat got her worthless self pregnant. Anyone who doesn't think the same should seriously think about throwing themself off of the neares building. RWR, I assure you, many people find moral fiber( dare I say it?) refreshing and even comforting in a world full of people like you. Consequently, I find myself surrounded by people who "give a damn", as you so charmingly put it, because I have principles.
Here's some free advice: Haul your overweight self out of bed, find someone who will have you(You'll have to develop some sense of basic human understanding first, of course), and get a real life.
By the way, your bitterness is SOOO obvious. I would screen your future posts if i were you, huh?
Posted by: Kim at Thu May 4 16:01:08 2006 (wZLWV)
First, I'm not pro-choice or liberal. I founded the pro-life group at my university 25 years ago, and am still involved ith that movement. What i am is a Christian who recognizes that every person is a sinner, and that cutting others out of our lives for sinning means we will each live in a lonely little box. Moral standards are important, but the reality is that each and every one of us "misses the mark" (Greek -- hamartia -- usually translated as "sins" on the Bible). and falls short of those standards in one way or another. Is it your position that you do not do the same, and that you are a paragon of virtue that has lived your life without sin? Do you believe that, upon discovery that you have sinned, you should be shunned by one and all for that sin? Or do you believe that sexual sins are the only ones which God will not forgive and which we must likewise hold to be outside the bounds of forgiveness? And I'll point out that it is attitudes like yours that fuel the abortion culture you seem to oppose -- all your sister would have needed to do was secretly have her child sucked from her womb with a vaccuum hose for her to have kept your good opinion and her relationship with you! Remembr -- the message of Christ is one of love and repentance for sinners, not one of self-righteousness and condemnation. Your attitude is more reflective of the Pharisees.
As for my relationships, rest assured that they are just fine -- I'm happily married to a wonderful woman who I adore, though miscarriages ended our dreams of having children and medical issues disqualify us from adopting. I'll be taking her for medical testing today, becasue of concerns about a posible heart condition to go with her other health problems. So trust me, I know a great deal more about REAL relationships, little girl, than you have even had the opportunity to dream of in your sixteen years of life. One of the most basic things I learned is that there is no perfect person out there for us to be in relationship with -- as a friend, family member, or spouse -- and that as a result we must learn to love others who are flawed, just as they must accept our flaws to love us.
There are, those, of course, who disagree with that point of view. They tend to push away those who fall short of their (limited) vision of what it means to be moral, and justify all sorts of hurtful actions against the sinful in the name of encouraging morality. The two best examples of this sort of person in today's world would be Rev. Fred Phelps amd Osama bin Laden. Are you kin to either?

I also think there should be a stiff penalty for teen pregnancy, and that if the family of the said whore decides to keep the child, the siblings should be able to opt for fostercare.(Because very few people understand the humiliation one faces in such a situation. The "stigma", if you will.)
As for your post, well, I'm not going to waste time commenting on such drivel. That's just the way it is. Not lack of compassion, but presence of practicality.

And by the way, I would almost agree with you -- for the sake of the rest of your family, it would be much better if you were to be givent he option to be in foster care -- it would provide a much more pleasant and healthful environment for your sister and her child, both of whom need a loving, nurturing, supportive environment that would be impossible with you in the picture.
After all, your sister can decide not to have sex. Your being a b*tch seems to be a permanent character trait.

And Kim -- I am not one of the "Supporters of immortality" -- I believe that it is appointed to each of us to die once, face the judgement of that Chief Magistrate in heaven, and thence to the eternal reward appointed to us.
Oh, and by the way, I've yet to see anything superior about you -- you are just one of the many conceited sixteen-year-olds I have dealt with over the years, believing herself to be superior to both her peers and the adults around her. I've come to see that they are very lonely people, who attempt to warm themselves by pointing to their extreme beauty, extreme intelligence, or extreme devotion to a cause. When they hit college, they usually find that it doesn't matter who they were in high school -- nobody at college likes them for who they are. Typically, they end up coming home at the end of first semester and going to community college, having been confronted with the fact that they have cultivated a personality that alienates everyone they meet.
Look at yourself closely and ask -- am I the sort of person I would like? If you are honest, i believe you will find the answer is NO.

Well, let me spare your clogged heart any unecessary effort; admit defeat(not that it was much of a fight-you generally have to exert SOME effort during a fight, and I certainly didn't, although I'm sure you burned off at least some of the dozen donuts you consumed over the day), and bow out gracefully.(Can morbidly obese people bow?).

One was a guy whose posts were Tourettes-like in their use of profanity.
The second was kim, a malicious spreader of false tails who was repeatedly asked to refrain from making her malignant posts.
Posted by: Rhymes With Right at Fri May 19 17:08:36 2006 (/QTKv)
I have no idea about whether the pregnancy is a "false tail" or not, and I'd be surprised if you know, either. The fact that Kim says she was I take as cruel gossip, and that's all. The fact that her mother says she wasn't I take as understandable, but not dispositive. It's irrelevant either way.
It's kind of odd how upsetting you find the cruel gossip, though, especially when it obviously comes from a source without direct knowledge. IF she were pregnant, would that make her death less sad? Shouldn't pro-lifers be even more upset? Or is the loss of a potential fetus somehow less important than the possibility that the poor girl had not lived her life in obeyance of your views on sexuality?
Posted by: Dan at Fri May 19 23:37:23 2006 (aSKj6)
A teenage girl is attacked and left for dead. She is found alive, and fighting for her life in a hospital. Along comes some obnoxious child calling her (when you cut through all the vebiage) an "ugly little whore who was asking for it". Having been taken to task for it and asked to stop posting on my site, she continues with a series of insulting and unwelcome posts AND accused the victim's mother of lying in order to profit off of her daughter's injuries-- and even changes her method of accessing the site to get around my initial blocking (which I imposed when she made continued unwelcome posts in my absence while my computer was down).
This case resonates with me for a lot of reasons. I've had to report several cases of sexual abuse of student about Ashley's age. Ashley is a kid from the small town where i once lived. Several friends of mine have been victims of sexual assault over the years.
One, age 14, was abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered thirty years ago-- abandoned in the woods. I remember the rumors about her during the three months she was missing -- including the ones that she was hooking in one of the local touristy areas. I remember the pain such false stories caused family and friends.
And Dan, I don't know where you get all that crap in the last paragraph. What happened would not in any way be more acceptable if Ashley were pregnant. Indeed, it would make the actions of the child-abusing bastard who did this even more sad.
Oh, and this article includes some pretty shocking details of what this son-of-a-bitch professional wrestler did to this child.

But beyond that, her "I'm perfect, anyone who disagrees with me is a loser and evil" posts got rather annoying. My intent at the early stage was to make her feel unwelcome. She didn't take the hint.
But the last straw was what i found when i finally got up and running again after my system crash -- Kim had turned the thread into the Kim show. I directed her to leave my site on May 9, but she refused to do so, posting repeatedly after acknowledging my directive to get off my site -- even changing email addresses to circumvent my attempt to ban her. It took her five days to comply with that demand, along with making contact with AOL and Yahoo. I informed her of my intended course of action if she contacted me in the futere.
She contacted me anyway.
And having found something else she posted that contains her email address, I feel pretty sure that my assessment of her personality type was accurate.
http://www.websitetoolbox.com/tool/post/ttchandra/vpost?id=1043519
But in the end, it is real simple -- I choose not to put up with her, and want her gone. That is my right.
