Denver Vs. New Orleans -- Disaster Response

Here is a little something for the race-baiters and poverty pimps of the Left (including Bawney Fwank) to consider.

Up here, in the Northern Plains, we just recovered from a Historic event— may I even say a “Weather Event” of “Biblical Proportions” — with a historic blizzard of up to 44″ inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10Â’s of thousands. George Bush did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else, either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snowstorm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything, either.

No Larry King, No Bill OÂ’Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUVÂ’s to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didnÂ’t ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snowbound families. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on extra layers of clothes because up here it is “Work or Die”.

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for Â’sittin at homeÂ’ checks.

Even though a Category “5″ blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about 48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the worldÂ’s social problems evaporate.

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on.

And as one who had family impacted by this mess and the recent winter storms that left family members in Washington and Oregon blacked-out for days in unseasonably cold weather, I won't even try to argue that the lack of media frenzy, massive federal response and presidential visits was based upon racism, incompetence or lack of concern -- or claim that the weather was a government conspiracy or designed to commit genocide.

H/T The Conspiracy To Keep You Poor & Stupid, Areopagitica, Colossus of Rhodey

UPDATE: Want to bet this doesn't rate a presidential visit, saturation news coverage, or left-wing conspiracy theories about how "the Bush Crime Family and CIA did this to distract from Iraq"?

1 I am a New Orleanian.  My 80 year old mother lives in Pass Christian, MS.  I spent the day today cleaning out a church rectory in one of the many still devastated neighborhoods of the city.  Do you know what 100,000 destroyed homes look like?  Have you ever seen the inside of a house that sat in rancid water for three weeks?  I know people that in ONE family lost 25 homes and 4 businesses.  So all  I have to tell  is that YOU do not have a clue and that I am ashamed of this country.

2 Is it stupidity, ignorance, racism, or intellectual dishonesty - or some combination of the above - that would lead you to post such an utterly false and ugly comparison?

Those stupid people in New Orleans are just sissies, aren't they, because they weren't self-reliant when the water destroyed their homes and filled their lungs? The white people of Colorado are much smarter and tougher than the lazy black people of New Orleans, because they didn't drown in the snow.

Meanwhile, in the real world (as opposed to the fairy-land the author of this BS lives in), the republicans are seeking federal aid, and getting FEMA involved.

3 Actually, the problem was the incompetence and corruption of the Democrat Regime that controls Louisiana and has since Reconstruction.

And interestingly enough, you prove my point about race-baiters and poverty pimps -- I'm not the one making comments about lazy black people, you are. I guess that is always the fallback position for you folks on the Left -- cry racism even when it isn't there.

Oh, and by the way, after nearly a year and a half of dealing with them in the Houston area on a daily basis, I'll be very happy to tell you all about lazy people from New Orleans who expect a handout rather than a hand up. Their major contribution to our community has been an increased crime rate.

4 Sad and disgusting.

I pray for the people of New Orleans to find God and trust in Him.

5 I don't even know how to respond to a comparison this appallingly poor. I must have missed the 1,600 dead in Denver. I must have missed gov't officials -- Democrats and Republicans alike -- failing to take precautions that could have prevented the damage done in Denver. I must have missed the damage it will take decades -- if ever -- to fix.

You ooze hatred and Limbaugh-esque "oppressed white man" angst. Liberals too often cite racism as the root of all evil. Often times when they call conservatives racists, they're dead wrong. But one need only read through this blog to determine that the label fits you, friend.

And as for your poorly disguised gay-bashing of Barney Frank: those of us who believe in a loving and just Lord above know who's really going to hell.

6 No -- no racism or gay-bashing. But then again, if you feel the need to escape critical analysis of the world by labeling your opponents as racists, be my guest -- it merely demonstrates your intellectual bankruptcy.

As for my comments about Barney Frank -- my objection is that he is anti-American, not that he is gay. And my criticism of his speaking skills had to do with -- oh my God -- his speaking skills, not his sexual orientation. And as for the pimp comment, I believe that is an appropriate description for someone allowing a prostitution service to be run out of his home.

7 NIce to see someone else call you on your fucking bullshit you fat, fucking putrid, useless, race baiting, chickenshit-chickenhawk.

8 Nice to see you are still incapable of rational, logical discussion or argumentation.

9 Whereas you simply hide your off-the-charts views behind the guise of "rational discussion." You cannot defend your comparison of Denver to New Orleans on any rational grounds, and only the Jerry Falwell crowd would dare stand by you.

You conveniently fail to address any serious questioning of your little theory, such as the number of victims, extent of the damage... you know, the "facts."

10 Let's see, "colleague", you appear to have hit all the liberal talking points.

Racist.  Check.

Gay-bashing.  Check.

Limbaugh.  Check.

Falwell.  Check.

Hatred.  Check.

Gutless failure to leave any contact information.  Check.

Yep -- you are clearly a typical liberal seminar poster.  No wonder our host doesn't bother with defending what is clearly a satirical piece.

11 Thanks, Jacob. I couldn't have said it better myself, especially since colleague's email address indicates he is with Foxnews but his IP address indicates he is using the server of the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph.

Might I suggest to him that he should not be bearing false witness -- and that I am posting someone else's commentar to spark discussion, despite what i suspected were exaggerations in it.

12 Yeah, and I'm sure Jacob's freakin' email is E @ mail.com. Imagine wanting to be anonymous, for any number of reasons, on the Internet! Golly. Brilliant point.

And I have no clue where you got the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. I'm not currently at FOX News, but I'm nowhere near Kansas City, or organized religion of any sort!

13 Jake, do you read far-left sites often? How often do you see this sentiment on liberal blogs?

Liberals too often cite racism as the root of all evil. Often times when they call conservatives racists, they're dead wrong.

I seem to infuriate people like you because I loathe views like the ones on this website and other far-right outlets -- yet my own views and voting record are moderate.

Posted by: colleague at Mon Jan 8 11:38:40 2007 (aPL79)

14 You'll have to excuse me -- I clicked on the wrong IP address to check. It seems clear that you are in the Pittsburgh area.

Oh, and by the way, Jacob is NOT anonymous to me -- I am well aware of who he is and how to contact him. Indeed, I can walk up to his front door and ring the bell within 5 minutes if need be, as he is a close personal friend and only began posting with the fake email address (with my permission) after receiving a barrage of anti-Semitic email from the Holocaust-denier I recently banned.

By the way, colleague -- point to the racist statement in the above post. You won't find it. What you will find is a satirical post, borrowed from another site, intended to mock those whose first response to the human tragedy of Hurricane Katrina was to shout "Racist!"

You know, sort of like you do in your comments here.
