Another Great Romney Profile

Newsweek offers this interesting insight on the Massachusetts governor.

As a founder of the venture firm Bain Capital, he grew extremely wealthy buying troubled companies and fixing them up for profit. By 1998, he'd concluded he "had enough money" and began looking for another challenge. He found it in Salt Lake City, where the planned 2002 Olympic Games were embroiled in allegations of financial mismanagement and malfeasance. Taking charge, Romney got the Games back on track and sold himself as a Mr. Fix-it when he ran for Massachusetts governor in 2002.

Romney's aides are hoping Republican primary voters will see a pattern: here's a turnaround specialist ready to fix the party, the country and the world. "The idea is to be the fresh perspective," says one adviser, who asked to remain anonymous describing strategy for a still-unannounced campaign. "McCain is yesterday, Giuliani is today, Romney is tomorrow."

But there is also this -- McCain is unpredictable, Giuliani is liberal, and Romney is a conservative. Everyone else is simply irrelevant -- including Newt Gingrich, who simply has too much baggage to possibly win an presidential election.

1 hey, Greg! How are you?

I have nothing against Mitt Romney, but I have to admit Giuliani looks pretty good to me so far.

I don't agree with him on some social issues, but he shines on the major one..the war against jihad. I think that events will catch up to us and that this issue will end up trumping all the others. Also, we need someone who has the leadership to unite the country and someone who ESPECIALLY, isn't in the pocket of the Saudis and the UAE. Giuliani is the one major candidate I know of  who ever turned down Arab money...and that includes the present occupant of the White House.

There's also his record as Mayor of what was the most dysfunctional city in America.

I think conservatives and a lot of other folks will vote for him because he is a leader.

As a matter of fact, he wrote the book on it. If you happen to get a chance, read his book `Leadership' and see what you think.

Have a great Christmas!

2 We in the GOP find ourselves n an awkward position -- we have a candidate who could win the general election, but probably can't get the nomination. In that, Rudy Giuliani is sort of like Joe Lieberman. The difference, however, is that it would be virtually impossible for Giuliani to wage a credible independent campaign on a nationwide scale the way that Lieberman did in Connecticut, because it would require 51 separate and distinct campaigns and ballot access processes, and would be severely hampered by campaign finance restrictions.

For that reason, i leave Rudy out of my consideration for the nomination, and instead have looked for the most credible candidate who can get the nomination -- and i believe Mitt is it.
