Will Libs Respect THIS Veteran?

Somehow I doubt that the Left, having conferred infallibility upon John Murtha for his service, will be willing to give the same level of respect to another hero in their midst -- 29-year Air Force veteran and former POW Sam Johnson.

Somehow I doubt it. After all, he is a Texan, a Republican, and a supporter of the war in Iraq.

“Pulling our troops out of Iraq now is unconscionable and irresponsible.

“We’ve got to support our troops to the hilt and see this mission through.

“I bet Abu Musab al-Zarqawi is high-fiving his buddies and praising Allah after hearing these news reports. Immediate withdrawal- and the conflict sparked by this debate - is just what al-Zarqawi wants.

“I was just in Iraq and our troops told me that they are motivated to spread democracy. They’re fighting for freedom and they mean business.

“We need to get the job done in support of freedom and to eliminate Al-Qaeda terrorists around the world.

“In case people have forgotten, this is the same thing that happened in Vietnam. Peaceniks and people in Congress – and America - started saying bad things about what was going on over there. Let me tell you what it did for troop morale. It’s a real downer.

“I just pray our troops and their families can block this noise out and know that I will fight like mad to make sure our troops have everything they need - for as long as they need - to win the global war on terrorism.”

John Murtha does not speak for all American veterans -- not even a majority of them, based upon my experience. As I pointed out earlier, he does not speak for the men and women serving in Iraq today, or those who have recently returned.

Bravo, Congressman Johnson.

1 The key difference is not infallibility, it is character assasination. When a Democratic veteran speaks out, the Right attacks him personally. You do not see anyone on the Left personally attacking Senator Johnson. The decision to invade adn occupy a foreign country demands open debate. The continuing decision to remain as an occupying force also demands open debate. The debate should be about the ideas - not about ad hominem attacks on the people in the debate. I have great personal respect, as a veteran myself, for both Murtha and Johnson. As an intelligence officer who served at CENTCOM HQ in 2003, I agree with Murtha. Not because he is a veteran, or infallible, but because his analysis of the situation is more like my own.

2 There was plenty of open debate on the decision to invade Iraq -- months of it. Twelve years of discussion over how to deal with the Saddamites, as a matter of fact.

We have listened to years of rhetoric from teh anti-war left, referring to supporters by any number of vile and obscene names and questioning the character of any who support the war. We have heard repeated false accusations about the motives for war and intentional promulgarion of false intelligence. We have been told we must accept such bickbats in a free society.

Now,in response to a proposal that ammounts to the abandonment of the Iraqi people and the surrendder of the United States to a rag-tag band of terrorists, many of us question both the proposal and the motives of those behind it -- and are roundly lambasted for making "personal attacks". My, what a double standard exists on the Left.

Frankly, my analysis of the Murtha proposal is that he does not believe the US military is up to its mission, and that the American fighting man is no match for the irregular forces that they combat -- forces which kill innocent men, women, and children on a daily basis. They seek to have us abandon our allies in a manner shockingly reminiscent of what was done in 1975.

Now i won't question your service or your patriotism -- any more than I question Murtha's. I will note that as i peruse your website I see very little that would be that would be typical of the veterans I know.

4 well, asswipe (at least you are appropriately named), you demonstrate the vicious, vacuous nature of your typical hate-America-first leftist.

No argumentation, simply personal attack of the nature your betters on the left claim to oppose.

And by the way, you would be wrong -- they won't take me now, because i fell well outside of every recruiting standard that exists today except for being heterosexual and having better than a high school diploma.

I somehow suspect that you couldn't meet either of those two.
