Someone Who Gets It

I don't often blog on "Letters To The Editor", but this one from today's Houston Chronicle hit it right on the head.

Looking in the wrong direction

On the same day that immigrant rights activists warned the Minutemen that they will be watched for illegal activity, a Honduran MS-13 gang member was accused of murdering 28 men and women.

Perhaps these so-called activists should be looking elsewhere for illegal activity.

SALOMON FUENTES
Houston

Exactly right, Mr. Fuentes -- though i won't happen. There is no political capital to be gained by the Democrat politicians who support immigration crime in going after MS-13. After all, that would mean arresting members of the gang, many of whom are here illegally, and admitting that the Minutemen are right in saying that such border-jumpers are a threat to the United States.

1 Damn right, but unfortunately, Bush is no better on this issue. Both parties pander to immigrants votes and are afraid of speaking out on the issue of illegal immigration, which is destroying this country. In fact, I would say that even LEGAL immigrations should be lowered, at least until we can get these people assimilated. We should also think about focusing immigration away from Latin America, and more towards European countries where the average IQ is much higher.

2 I'm gonna have to agree with the latter portion of your post.

I teach immigrant children, and find them to be no less intelligent than American-born kids.

3 Does it bother you that you could be teaching an illegal immigrant?

4 Could be? Who do you think your are kidding. Try "am teaching illegal immigrants."

I would ballpark estimate that 5-10% of my students are not legally in the US, though I could not say for sure which ones they are.

However, given district policy that mandates automatic firing of any employee who reports a studen or their family to 'La Migra", I make a point of not finding out the immigration status of any student.

Does that sort of game=playing bother me? Yes -- but given my wife's health issues, I will do nothing which endangers my ability to keep her insured.
