Hey -- I believe God will forgive the guy if he repents. Sounds like he (and his family) don't feel very penitent, from what I read.
On the other hand, God's forgiveness does not imply that he does not deserve to feel the full penalty of law.
Unless you want us to turn loose gay-bashers who say "Ooops -- I'm sorry!"
Surely you see the difference.
